I went to the local barber shop down here in Park Hills in August, 1999 to get my "every other month hair and face shave job". When I pulled into the driveway, there was this neat T Bucket stting there with a "for sale"sign.
I went inside and saw a guy reading a J.C. Whitney Catalog so I figured he must be the owner. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he told me. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway. The car sure had my heart a-thumping. Wow!
That night I thought about it all night and talked to Linda about it. The next day I went back to the barber shop and got the phone number off the bulletin board of the guy with the bucket.
I went to look at it and drool and he took me for a ride. That was all she wrote.
I asked him if he would take the money in a few payments and he said we could work something out. I about shit! I just knew he was going to say "no."
I told him I would get back with him in a couple days. My mental wheels were peeling out all over my brain.
I figured how much I could spare from cash on hand and took it over and gave to him the next day.
I called our mutual fund and got a little from there in a couple of days and took it over to him.
I called our life insurance company and got a little from our life insurance and took it over to him.
That left me about $2000 short. I thought the bank would laugh me right out the door when I asked to borrow money to buy a '23 Ford. She looked at the appraisal the owner gave me from Mid-America Classics and a couple of pics. When she started typing then said "sign here", I didn't know if I was dreaming.
I got the check, paid off the bucket and it was ours (and the bank's for 2 years).
The park is the little soccer park down from our house.
