3/12/2017 - This is the first plan and how I had it laid out. I had to go around
and count all the pieces so I would know what went where when I took it
down to set up the base.

This is the paperwork I've created so far while planning out the layout.

I had to do a lot of figuring when it came to planning the grades. I had to make sure that
there was enough clearance when one track passed over another.
I also had to be sure that grades weren't going to be too steep. I didn't want any grade
steeper than 4%.
After I figured out what grades I had, I had to go back and make some adjustments.
I figured in having a turnout and a spur track. I still don't know about having one there
yet. I'm thinking of having it inside the loop instead of outside. I have to consider where
the trestle legs will be and how to work around them.

Since I will be using Bachmann On30 rolling stock and locos, I got dimensions for their
locos and some cars. I wrote down the length, width, and height of them. That gave me
the info I needed to plan for the bridge and tunnel clearances.

I had to measure the different track pieces I would be using. I'm using Atlas 15" radius
curves on the trestles I will build since the trestles will be on curves.
I measured each curve to see how long it will be.
I'm using Bachmann EZ Track for track that will be on solid ground. I have Woodland
Scenics incline sets to use for that grade.

I decided that I wanted a "run around" part of the way up the mountain. That way, one
train could pull off and let another one pass if they met in the middle instead of one
having to back up. I had to modify my plane to accommodate that.
It took a long time to come up with this configuration. I had to have straight track for the
bridges where they passed over the track below. That's where you see the two parallel
9" pieces above.
